UNITY Pouch (Large Checks)
UNITY Pouch (Large Checks)
UNITY
This pouch has a raw (unwashed) Japanese denim base, a [large] black and white checkerboard print cotton fabric outer with oxblood topstitching, and uses heavy oxblood/burgundy rip-stop cotton fabric as its liner, which was made in the USA. The inspiration for this piece comes from the debut LP cover of the British 2 Tone/Ska band, The Specials, which was released in 1979. The black and white checks on the outside represent the skin of black and white folks intertwined, and the oxblood liner and stitching represent the blood inside and veins that run through our bodies, respectively - regardless of what's on the outside. UNITY.
